Profession to which it is oriented:
The degree allows the graduate to undertake the professional competences of a Naval and Ocean Engineer.
Educational objectives are to endow students with:
- The capacity to solve complex problems and to make decisions responsibly by resorting to the scientific and technological knowledge in the areas related to naval and ocean engineering, and in the area of management techniques.
- The capacity to devise and develop solutions which are technically, economically and environmentally suited to the requirements of the maritime transport of goods or passengers; the exploitation of marine resources (fishing, energy, minerals, etc.); the proper use of the marine habitat; and maritime security.
- The capacity to design and project ships and craft of all kinds.
- The capacity to project platforms, rigs and structures for the exploitation of marine resources.
- The capacity to design and oversee the processes of construction, repair, conversion, maintenance and inspection of aforementioned craft.
- The capacity to carry out research into the development and innovation of products, processes and methods in the naval and ocean engineering areas.
- The capacity to integrate complex marine systems and combine them into viable solutions.
- The capacity to analyse and interpret measurements, calculations, assessments, pricing, technical reports, studies, work-plans and similar tasks.
- The capacity to draft specifications which comply with contracts or established rules and regulations in the naval and industrial sector.
- Knowledge of international trade and transport for optimum ship design.
- The capacity for the management of maritime companies.
- The capacity for the management of ships and maritime craft, and of the engineering necessary to assure their safety, operability, logistic support and maintenance.
- The capacity for the development of engineering related to salvage and rescue operations and the design and use of rescue equipment.
- The capacity to analyse, assess and correct the social and environmental impact of the technical solutions devised.
- The capacity to organise and lead teamwork in a multidisciplinary and multilingual setting and to draft reports for the fluent communication of knowledge.
